Youth’s Google doodle up for vote

A second grade student, Hope Scalise, from Derynoski Elementary School, is the Connecticut winner of the Doodle 4 Google Art Competition.
A “doodle” is the logo design that appears on the Google website homepage periodically to celebrate special events, holidays , or the lives of artists and inventors.
Hope’s winning design was one of more than 100,000 that were submitted from Connecticut for the competition.  Hope is a nationwide finalist for the grand prize which includes a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 grant to winner’s school to enhance technology.
Starting May 1-10, the community can vote for Hope’s Doodle to be the national winner of the contest.
The public will be invited to vote online from May 1, 8:00 am Eastern Time (ET) to May 10, 2013 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). The public will be asked to select their favorite doodle, one from each grade-level group.

Hope will be honored at the Southington Board of Education Meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at the Municipal Center.
