Furry co-star commuted for role

A Torrington pooch named Teddy for weeks now has made daily trips to Southington to practice for the play “Annie.”
The 3-year-old mini golden doodle, owned by Patricia Zimmerman, took stage at John F. Kennedy Middle School as Sandy, Annie’s dog.
Zimmerman said Teddy was trained at Canine Academy in Winsted and at home. “He has a little trouble bowing, but he’ll do it,” Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman heard about the show from her daughter who suggested she bring Teddy for a tryout. She said she doesn’t mind the 45-minute drive to see her dog perform. Teddy will be on stage for all the performances put on by the joint drama clubs of DePaolo and Kennedy Middle Schools. The students have put on an excellent show, she said.
Zimmerman said she got Teddy three years ago to be her companion after her husband died.
“I never expected a wonder dog,” she said. “He is a good boy.”
