Southington Education Foundation partners with HQ Dumpsters

March 25, 2013

Southington’s own HQ Dumpsters & Recycling has partnered with the Southington Education Foundation (SEF) to help fund creative educational programming in our community’s classrooms.
HQ Dumpsters & Recycling will donate $25 to the Southington Education Foundation for each new residential account it acquires over the next six months – up to $25,000. In addition, homeowners will receive one month of free weekly trash and recycling service for signing up with the company for one year.
The SEF will also benefit from new commercial accounts as HQ has agreed to donate 4 percent of the company’s yearly fee for trash service.
HQ Dumpsters is a family-owned and operated company. Owners Kurt Holyst and Jack Perry are eager to give back to the community in which both were educated and out of which they now operate their business.
“As a product of the Southington public school system and a graduate from the University of Michigan, I understand how important education is and the challenges we face these days in terms of sufficiently funding our schools to maintain the academic excellence that Southington has always enjoyed,” said Holyst.
To date, the SEF has funded nearly $100,000 of grants to schools throughout the district. With nearly 50 grants funded, every school in Southington has received at least three. The SEF funds those programs and projects that go beyond the central mission of the public school system and encourage enriching, innovative opportunities for our classrooms.
According to SEF Chairman Dawn Miceli, the partnership with HQ Dumpsters greatly enhances the initiatives supported by the SEF.
“The generosity of the Holyst and Perry families and HQ Dumpsters is much appreciated, especially at a time when the SEF is looking to fund its premier signature program for our community – the STEM Center,” said Miceli. “With its focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the STEM Center will enhance our district’s curriculum in each of these four disciplines and will enable our educators to provide experiential learning and hands-on activities for our students.”
To sign up for trash and recycling service with HQ Dumpsters, call the company’s SEF-dedicated line at 860.471.4505.
