The Southington YMCA held its annual Community Support Campaign Kick-off Breakfast last week, complete with stories of how the YMCA, its staff and programs, have helped numerous people within the community.
Last year the campaign was able to raise $280,000, all of which was used to help those that could not afford to attend the YMCA.
“That translates to 90 kids getting a scholarship so they could attend Camp Sloper last summer, over 500 people receiving financial assistance for their Y membership, 98 children getting financial assistance for YMCA child care, providing the Y-Outreach Program for kids in the Summerbrook and Meadows apartment complexes and offing teens our Y Teen Center and leadership and service club for free,” said YMCA Board President Melissa Sheffy.
Kathy Reinhard, a longtime YMCA member and someone who is involved in almost all charitable groups in town, including her family’s Joe and Kay Calvanese Foundation, briefly spoke about how the YMCA, often times behind the scenes, helps those in the community, including one of her students and how the YMCA impacted her life.
“Any time there is a need and you can’t find a solution, you come to the Y,” Reinhard said.
Anyone interested in contributing to the campaign can contact the YMCA at 628-5597.
