Little girls in the area will have a chance to feel like royalty and meet their favorite fairy tale royalty, thanks to the Miss Southington Scholarship Organization.

Miss Southington Kaitlyn Tarpey, Miss Plantsville Shannon Murphy, Miss Southington’s Outstanding Teen Madison Yurgaitis, Miss Plantsville’s Outstanding Teen Katerina Belales, and Miss Milldale’s Outstanding Teen Olivia Sica are expected to team up for a “Princess Meet and Greet” on March 10 at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville.

At the event, young girls can meet their favorite princesses as well as enjoy other activities with their favorite fairy tale royalty.

Katerina Belales, one of Southington’s teen princesses and one of the princesses participating on March 10, said the event is serving as a dual fund raiser. Some of the funds will go towards Southington’s social services department. Other funds will be going back into the Miss Southington organization.

What princesses can the children expect?

Katerina said children will find Belle (which will be portrayed by Katerina), Jasmine, and Ariel. Katerina said some of the other princesses that may be arriving for the children include Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Tinker Bell.

“Little girls would like this event because it would make them feel like a princess. They would get to talk with the ‘princesses’ and be able to meet their favorite Disney princess,” said Katerina. “They would also get their nails done and faces painted, making them feel more like a princess.”

Katerina knows first hand how fun these events are, having taken part in them as a child herself. “I loved doing those activities when I was a little girl,” said Katerina.

“I’ve worked as a princess before (dressed up for parties and events), so I know what it feels like, and I like it a lot,” said Katerina. “Seeing the little girls’ faces light up when the ‘princesses’ walk into the room is just a wonderful feeling.”

Katerina also said that as much fun as the event is, it also is beneficial for the community at large. “I love to be able to help out in the community. Since my platform, ‘Read to Succeed,’ encourages younger kids to read more, (at this event) I have several opportunities to spend time with the children. I enjoy being with them so much.”

The “Princess Meet and Greet,” sponsored by the Miss Southington Scholarship Organization, will be held Sunday, March 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville. Advance tickets are $15. For tickets, email or call (860) 620-3221.
