The Southington YMCA’s annual Teen Dodgeball Tournament returns for another throw later this month.
The tournament, now in its third year, is broken up into tow divisions, middle school and high school. There is a maximum of 16 teams per division.
“In the past two years we’ve had some success with it,” said tournament organizers Steve Silva.
Silva said the two divisions in the double elimination tournament filled quickly last year and that he may expand the number of teams, depending on how the field shapes up. The tournament has been advertised in the schools.
“The response has been great,” Silva said.
Silva said the idea for the tournament goes back to his fond middle school memories of playing the game and he noted that dodgeball is still a favorite in the YMCA’s Tw-Y-Light program.
The tournament is slated for Sunday, Jan. 27 at the YMCA. The cost of participating is $5 per person, with a maximum of six players per team required. An extra $2 fee is added for game day registration.
The sixth through eighth grade division begins at noon and the ninth through twelfth grade division starts at 12:30 p.m.
The top teams in each division will win a trophy and participants do not have to be YMCA members. Registration forms are available at the front desk at the YMCA.
All of the money raised from the tournament will be used to fund various teen programs at the YMCA.
