The Imagine Nation Museum invites families to celebrate snowmen on Dec. 28.
Author Rick Labadia will talk about his two books: “What Can a Snowman Count?” and “What Can a Snowman Wear? A Snowman Alphabet.”
Kids can have fun with snowmen, and create a snow creature out of shaving cream in the Imagine It! Art Area.
The program will be from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 28.
The children’s museum is also gearing up to celebrate the New Year with the “8th Annual Celebrations Around the World!” The event, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 31, celebrates cultures and traditions from around the globe.
Participants can create a party hat and noisemakers, and enjoy music, dancing and more. Visitors can march in a parade at 11:30 a.m. And gather in “Imagine Nation Times Square” for the ball to drop at noon. Admission is $7; members and children one year old and younger are free.

HOLIDAY FUN: Ronnie Spector’s “Best Christmas Party Ever!” will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den. Spector’s Christmas recordings, featured on the 1963 album “A Christmas Gift for You,” are staples of the holiday season. The free show is for ages 21 years and older. SCIENCE MYSTERY: The Southington Public Library’s children’s department will host an “Underground Lab Mystery” at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 28.
In the program, a hidden underground laboratory on the outskirts of town holds secrets. Kids can witness surprising discoveries, experience showers of smoke-filled bubbles and popping potions.
The program is for children ages 6 years and older. In-person registration is required for this event.
TEEN IDOL: Justin Bieber is coming to Hartford’s XL Center next summer, for a show on July 18. This will be the second time Bieber has performed at the XL Center. The singer appeared in October 2009, playing to a sold-out crowd.

CHILDREN’S THEATER GROUP: Children who are in grade 3 through age 12 years old are invited to register for the Southington Public Library’s “Theater Games” programs, set for Jan. 7 as well as Jan. 14. The program is at 4 p.m. each day; kids can register for one or both dates.
