Southington Police Officer Tom Gallo was recently awarded a statewide safety award.
Gallo, a 22 year veteran of the force, received the Safe Kids Advocacy Award at the Safe Kids Connecticut injury prevention Conference. The award is for those that go above and beyond in the area of child safety.
“I think it’s a great honor,” Gallo said.
Gallo, who started with the department in June 1990, has worked as a child safety advocate for most of his career. Gallo said he “Kind of fell into” the position after volunteering to become a DARE officer.
“It took off from there,” Gallo said.
He oversees the Southington Police Department’s Child Passenger Safety Program, which has been named the best overall in the state by the Connecticut Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety two years running and he works on a state level to educate fellow officers and first responders in the area of occupant protection.
