In celebration of National Food Day on October 24, 2012 the Southington Library has joined others in the community in helping those less fortunate.
Southington’s Community Services is in need of non-perishable, not expired foods for a family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Community Services last year filled over 150 Thanksgiving baskets with food donations. This year the need is greater.
The food drive begins Monday, Oct. 15. Community Service collection bins will be placed by the front entrance kiosk in the library. Residents are reminded that this is not “Food for Fines.” This is a “Special Collection” to help Community Services give a special day to those less fortunate.
Items suggested for a Thanksgiving Basket include; mash potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, canned vegetables, pasta, canned tomato sauce, dessert mixes and nuts.
